About Me: I've been a Licensed Massage Therapist for about 12 years, most of which has been spent honing my skills in a medical setting. My primary styles of bodywork are John F. Barnes Myofascial Release and my own therapeutic approach. I love my work and am proud of my overall success rate.

What this Means to You: There are many places you can go to relax, and here is no exception. However, I'm in the business of not just helping you to feel good, but to feel BETTER! Ultimately, my practice is based on relationships. You choose to invest in me, and I am invested in you!

What's Happening?

I've been spending the last couple of weeks considering investment - time, money, focus - along with value and return. This practice is all about investing in health and the rewards in return. For at least 10 years now, I have been dreaming of the time when I would propel my focus to the next level. I knew where I wanted to go, but allowed other commitments and excuses to get in my way. The time has come to move forward.

I'm about to make a big investment in my education. The goal, as always, is to optimize your healing experience. In essence, we will go on this journey together. It is a little scary, but mostly exciting. It's where my heart has been calling and I'm finally taking the initiative to get there.

Follow my Facebook @EssenceofSol for updates and look out for future newsletters. This is a BIG investment, but there is no doubt in my mind that the rewards will be great!

Hydration Recipe

Keeping hydrated is an important part of staying healthy. Every cell, tissue and organ depends on water to function properly (I can SHOW you from a microscopic perspective. Ask me!). Water promotes cardiovascular health, maintains body temperature, assists in muscle recovery, lubricates joints, removes waste and keeps skin supple.

Tips for Summer Health

Summer is in full force. Here are some tips to help beat the heat and stay on track with your health.

1. Work out in the morning. A morning workout routing will ramp your body full of endorphins to help jump-start the day. Avoid exercising outside from the hours of 10 am to 2 pm when the sun is directly overhead. Mid-day heat can kill your energy levels and can increase the risk of heat stroke or dehydration.

2. Stay hydrated. The importance of drinking water should be a regular part of your day, but it is especially important during the summer months. (See our delicious hydration recipes throughout). Extreme temperatures cause our bodies to lose water faster. We should drink water even if we don't feel thirsty in the summer to prevent the risk of dehydration.

3. Wear sunscreen, even if you're only outside a short time. Aging skin is an accumulation of years of sun damage. Your skin is at risk even when you're walking from your car to work. Wear at least 30 SPF on exposed skin. If you're working or playing outside, make sure to reapply every 4 hours. (Don't forget to apply sunscreen on your ears, and, if your feet are exposed, between your soles and toes!

4. Shop at the farmer's market. Clean eating is so easy when you have access to local produce and summer is a great time of year to find an abundance of fruits, vegetables and herbs. Plus, you'll be supporting the community and avoiding most of the pesticides and chemicals used in grocery store produce.

5. Take advantage of the grill. BBQ's are a great way to get together and be outside. Grill any of your fruits and veggies for a delicious way to increase your antioxidants while avoiding these unhealthy compounds. If you go for meat, cut down on your grill time by using skewers. You can have a complete meal on one stick!

Preparing for your Next Massage

Myofascial Release (MFR) is done without oil, so no worries about stained, sticky clothes (however, I use very little oil to begin with, and can practice fairly easily without it).

For your MFR appointment, please wear shorts/swim trunks, a sports bra/shorts or a 2-piece swimsuit in order to better assess posture, note any changes during treatment, and because a top sheet is not used.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your next massage appointment. This will help you continue to feel relaxed after your massage and make the process of undressing easier prior to your massage.

Wearing many layers with lots of buttons and zippers is probably not the best option. Instead, try your favorite t-shirt with yoga pants or comfortable sweats.

If you are coming straight from work, pack a bag and bring something comfortable to slip into. However, if you have to return to work, no worries! I can easily work with little or no oil so you don't have to worry about stains or feeling sticky.
